What Is Naturopathic Treatment?
Naturopathic treatment combines and heals the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of your body. It not only identifies the source of the disease and cures it, but also helps to activate your natural body’s abilities to heal itself. Thus, naturopathic medicine promotes long-lasting health and well-being with the help of:
Benefits of Naturopathic Care for the Whole Family
Holistic Treatment
As one of the main principles of naturopathy states, “treat the whole person”. That’s why naturopathic doctors at our clinic carefully investigate your state to find the root cause of your problems and eliminate them completely.
Non-Invasive Methods
Naturopathy uses a wide range of tools, but none of them is a scalpel. Let the power of nature help you restore inner balance and feel the much-needed energy to light the spark of rational hope in you.
Preventative Measures
Even if you think you’re feeling “fine” right now, it may not last forever. Naturopathy helps restore the optimal level of the immune system and promote overall health, while also encouraging self-responsibility, so your body will restore itself more effectively long after your treatment is over.
Boosted Wellbeing
Naturopathic treatment in our clinic combines traditional and modern approaches to ensure relief from your condition. As naturopathy is a holistic medicine, while treating one problem, there’s a great chance you’ll forget about others as well, and will feel your best. For example, chronic joint pain treatment often leads to weight loss, which in turn results in enhanced energy and improved health.

As your health improves, you’ll be able to reduce the number of consultations and schedule only follow-up appointments to maintain your wellness.

-
Do naturopathic doctors require training and registration?
Of course! Just like any other medical specialist, naturopathic doctors undergo an extended postsecondary education program (minimum of 7 years – 3 years of pre-med postsecondary education and 4 years of full-time study at an approved college of Naturopathic Medicine, like the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto). They usually enter a naturopathic college or medical school to study biology and chemistry (e.g., organic chemistry and biochemistry).
During their education, naturopaths also complete clinical rotations and treat patients under the supervision of licensed NDs. Graduates from an accredited naturopathic college receive the designation Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and are required to undergo annual registration with the licensing body.
The final test for future licensed specialists is the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX). This will allow them to treat patients across Ontario and states across North America. To maintain the registration, our licensed naturopathic doctors also earn continuing education credits on an ongoing basis.
-
Can a naturopath prescribe medication in Canada?
In short, yes, some naturopaths are allowed to prescribe desiccated thyroid (NDT, Erfa) and bio-identical hormones (progesterone and estrogen). It can only be possible if they have completed additional certification.
-
What is the difference between a homeopath and a naturopath?
Unlike the naturopathic holistic approach to treatment, homeopathic specialists are highly trained in only one specific natural form of therapy: homeopathy. They study for less (1-3 years) and base their programs on herbal substances and the principle “like cures like”.
