FAQ

Will my extended health care plan cover the costs of massage therapy?

Most extended health care plans will cover the costs of massage therapy treatments when provided by a Registered Massage Therapist, and most do not require a physician’s order to do so. Massage therapy treatments are not covered under OHIP however, regardless of whether the treatments are provided by a Massage Therapist directly, by a physician, or required by a physician. Thus, extended health care plans are necessary to receive coverage for massage therapy. In any case, contact your employer for more information.

What can I expect during my initial registered massage therapy appointment?

During your initial registered massage therapy appointment, the expected procedures occur as follows:

Intake Forms: Fill out some basic personal information as well as answer some health history questions which will help the Massage Therapist understand any health issues you have and identify any contraindications if there are any.
In the Treatment Room: Before you get on the table, the therapist will first discuss with you consent. Secondly, the therapist will ask about any injuries or conditions you have, as well as any medications you are taking. This information will help the therapist determine the best approach to your treatment.
Getting on the Table: After discussing your treatment approach, the therapist will leave the room to allow you to undress appropriately and get on the table. It is completely up to you and your comfort level on how much or how little you choose to undress.
The Treatment: Once you are ready, the Massage Therapist will begin your treatment. Chit-chatting with the therapist is completely up to you. The therapist will check in regularly to ensure that you are comfortable with the level of pressure and that the techniques they are using feel alright.
Getting Off The Table: The therapist will leave the room once the hands-on portion of your treatment is finished to give you a few minutes to get up off the table and get dressed in private. Take your time getting off the table as it is not uncommon after a massage therapy session to feel light-headed.
Post-treatment Check-in: Once you are up and dressed, your therapist will follow up by asking how you feel, how you felt during treatment, as well as if any areas are still sore or if any new areas are suddenly sore. Many Registered Massage Therapists will also take this opportunity to provide you with some at-home care advice.
Check Out: Time to pay for your treatment at the reception area. Here is also where you can book a follow-up appointment if you are interested in one. 2 weeks and 2 months is a common time frame between appointments depending on your treatment requirements.

What is the difference between massage, acupuncture, chiropractic care, and reflexology?

There are many different types of alternative therapies that can be used to promote healing and wellness. Massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, and reflexology have similar origins in Chinese medicine and share the concept of using pressure points on the body to relieve stress and promote the body’s ability to heal. Each modality has its own unique benefits and drawbacks, and it is important to choose the right treatment for each individual.

Massage therapy involves the use of firm pressure and strokes to manipulate the muscles and soft tissues of the body. It is a popular choice for relaxation and stress relief, as it can help to reduce pain and muscle tension while also improving circulation, flexibility, and range of motion.
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese therapy based on the belief that energy flow can be restored by using thin needles to stimulate specific points on the body. It is often used to treat pain, headaches, and nausea.
Chiropractic care focuses on the alignment of the spine and the musculoskeletal system. It is often used to treat back pain, neck pain, and migraines.
Reflexology is a therapy that uses pressure points on the hands and feet to promote healing in other parts of the body. It can be used to relieve pain, tension, and stress, and to improve overall health.

While each of these therapies differ in their approach and techniques, they all offer potential benefits for those seeking alternative methods of care.

Is chiropractic care covered by extended insurance benefits?

Chiropractic care is covered by extended insurance benefits. Be that as it may, talk to your employer about extended health care plans to find out about your coverage.

Do I need a doctor referral to see a chiropractor in Newmarket?

No, you do not need a doctor referral to see a chiropractor in Newmarket. As a matter of fact, in Ontario, generally speaking, you can visit a chiropractor without a referral from a doctor, nurse practitioner, or other health care professional.

Are there different techniques offered as part of your acupuncture treatment?

Acupuncture is a holistic approach to medicine that has been used for centuries to treat a variety of conditions. The basic principle underlying acupuncture is that energy, or qi, flows through the body along specific pathways, or meridians. When this energy becomes imbalanced, it can lead to illness or disease. By placing thin needles at specific points along the meridians, acupuncture can help to restore balance and promote healing.
Our clinic offers a variety of acupuncture techniques to meet the needs of our patients. To determine the type of acupuncture treatment that will be most beneficial to you, your practitioner may ask you about your symptoms, behaviors, and lifestyle. He or she may also closely examine:

– The parts of your body that are painful
– The color of your face
– The quality, strength, and rhythm, of the pulse in your wrist

Needling is the most common form of acupuncture and involves the insertion of needles into the skin at specific points. Japanese acupuncture is similar to traditional Chinese acupuncture, only it uses thicker needles. Auricular acupuncture focuses on points on the ear. Moxibustion is another technique that uses heat to stimulate the flow of qi. Cupping involves placing glass cups on the skin to create a suction effect. Electro-acupuncture uses a low-voltage electrical current to stimulate the acupuncture points. This technique is often used for conditions such as migraines, PMS, and chronic pain.

No matter which techniques are used, acupuncture is a safe and effective way to promote healing and maintain wellness. Our goal is to provide our patients with the best possible care, and we tailor our treatments to each individual’s needs.

Can I receive pelvic floor physio while I am pregnant?

Yes, you can receive pelvic floor physio while you are pregnant. Not only is it safe to do pelvic floor exercises while pregnant, but it is very beneficial to help prepare you for giving birth as well for the following reasons:

– You can help to control some of the bladder and bowel symptoms during pregnancy.
– It can help ensure your muscles are elastic enough for birth.
– PFP can also act as a preventive measure. For example, if you are experiencing urinary incontinence, the leaking may be a result of an issue with muscle integrity. If the muscles aren’t strong enough to hold and control the bladder, PFP will help with this.

Even after birth, physiotherapists say you can restart pelvic floor physiotherapy roughly 4-6 weeks postpartum.

What is MVA Rehabilitation?

MVA or Motor Vehicle Accident Rehabilitation are services designed to help you recover from common motor vehicle accident injuries such as sprains, whiplash, concussion, and even broken bones. A Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) is a traumatic experience that can result in a wide array of physical injuries and cognitive deficits. Clients will receive an in-depth evaluation to identify all the components of the injury. The client’s treatment plan is tailored to the individual needs of the client.by addressing the issues identified in the assessment, and taking into account activities of daily living (ADL’s), workplace demands, and cognitive restrictions.

How do motor vehicle accident injury claims work?

If you’ve been injured in a motor vehicle accident, you may be wondering how to proceed with an injury claim. In general, there are three types of claims that can be filed: first party, third party, and uninsured/underinsured motorist. Filing a first party claim is through your own insurance company. Conversely, third party claims are filed with the insurance company of the at-fault driver. You may be able to file an uninsured/underinsured motorist claim with your own insurance company if the at-fault driver does not have insurance or doesn’t have enough coverage to cover your damages.

With all that said, the first step is to seek medical attention for any injuries you have sustained. It is important to get a doctor’s opinion not only for your own health, but also to have documentation of your injuries. There are many different types of damages that may be available in a motor vehicle accident injury claim. Medical expenses, both past and future, may be recovered. Lost wages may also be recoverable, as well as property damage. In some cases, pain and suffering damages may also be available. Once you have seen a doctor, you can then start gathering evidence from the accident scene. This may include taking photos of the damage to your vehicle and the other driver’s vehicle, as well as getting the contact information of any witnesses. If the damages are more than $2,000, you will also need to file a police report.

Next, in any kind of claim, notify your insurance company as soon as possible. You will need to provide them with basic information about the accident, as well as any medical treatment that you have received. Once you have done this, your insurance company will open an investigation and begin working on your claim. You may also want to look into contacting an attorney who specializes in motor vehicle accident injury claims. They will review your case and help you determine whether or not you have a valid claim. If they believe you do have a case, they will help you negotiate with the insurance company to get the compensation you deserve.

What do I do after a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)?

After being involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA), it is important to take certain steps to ensure your safety and protect your legal rights. If you are able, move your vehicle out of the flow of traffic to avoid causing another accident. Once you are in a safe location, turn off your engine and turn on your hazard lights. If anyone has been injured, call 911 and request medical assistance and law enforcement to arrive. If you are able to do so, exchange information with the other driver, including insurance information. You should also gather the contact information of any witnesses who saw the accident. It is also important to take photographs of the damage to both vehicles as well as any visible injuries. Also, get a copy of the police report. Once you have taken these steps, you should contact an experienced personal injury attorney to discuss your case and determine what legal options may be available to you. By taking these steps, you can help to ensure that everyone stays safe and that your insurance claim is processed smoothly.

Should I call my insurance provider before my motor vehicle accident rehabilitation?

Yes, you should call your insurance provider before your motor vehicle accident rehabilitation to check whether you have coverage to cover the costs of therapy.

What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy used to treat?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that involves breathing 100% oxygen at a higher than atmospheric pressure. The individual undergoing HBOT will breathe in pressurized oxygen, which saturates their blood and tissues with oxygen. This increase in oxygen levels can promote healing by stimulating the growth of new blood vessels and helping white blood cells fight infection. HBOT is used to treat a variety of conditions, including air embolism, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness (common from scuba diving), anemia, skin gafts, and wounds that won’t heal. HBOT has also been shown to be effective in treating cerebral palsy, diabetic ulcers, pressure sores, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, and multiple sclerosis. The rationale behind HBOT is that by increasing the amount of oxygen in the body, tissues can heal more quickly and effectively. In addition, the high pressures used in HBOT can help to reduce inflammation and promote the growth of new blood vessels.

Are there any after-effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally a safe procedure. Complications are rare but there are some risks associated with the treatment, including lung collapse, seizures, middle ear damage, sinus problems, and vision changes. As such, it is important to discuss the risks and benefits of HBOT with a medical professional before undergoing treatment.

How effective is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a versatile treatment that can offer many benefits for individuals with a variety of medical conditions. The results suggest that HBO therapy has been shown to be an effective method for treating complex wounds. The rate of healing ranges from 85 to 95%. Though HBO significantly improves wound healing, it does not replace quality wound care. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is not a replacement for aggressive wound treatment but should be used in addition as a supplementary treatment method.
